## Methodology

Median gross annual pay for people living in London, from the ONS Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings via NOMIS — the resident analysis rather than the workplace one, which measures what jobs in London pay and reads higher. Median rather than mean, because a handful of very large City salaries drag an average somewhere no one recognises. Cash figures, not adjusted for inflation: the line is what was paid, not what it bought.
