## Methodology

Median reported hourly gender pay gap across London employers, by reporting year. Every UK employer with 250 or more staff must publish this. It is NOT unequal pay for equal work, which is separately illegal — a 20% gap usually means the senior jobs are held by men and the junior ones by women. London is defined by postcode area: E, EC, N, NW, SE, SW, W and WC, the London postal district. That is deliberately not Greater London, because the outer boroughs share postcode areas with the home counties and cannot be separated from them here. The address is the employer's registered one, so a national chain reports once, in London, for staff spread across the country. 2019/20 is thin because reporting was suspended during the pandemic.
