Methodology

Every location on CQC's register whose region is London and whose registration status is still 'Registered', from the syndication API. Coordinates are CQC's own ONSPD lookup for the service's postcode, so a dot is the postcode centroid of a registered address, not a surveyed building — and for a homecare agency that address is an office, not where the care happens. CLOSED SERVICES ARE EXCLUDED: the API's London list returns deregistered locations alongside live ones and offers no status filter, so each record is fetched individually and checked. Colour is the current location-level overall rating. 'No overall rating' is an absence, not a fifth quality band: it can include services awaiting assessment and multi-service locations for which CQC publishes ratings at individual service level instead. Ratings are point-in-time judgements that can be years old, so the inspection date travels with each dot.
