Methodology

The share of each borough's residents living within one mile of somewhere they can get cash, from the FCA's access-to-cash monitoring, published twice a year. The first series counts only brick-and-mortar branches of the larger banks and building societies that provide personal current accounts; the second adds Post Office counters, which is the FCA's own next grouping. The FCA publishes fourteen groupings in all, and for London thirteen are flat — every borough between 98% and 100% — because ATMs and cashback are everywhere. Branches are not, which is why these two are the pair worth drawing. Distances are straight-line to the nearest point, so a mile here is not a mile walked. Population weights are the FCA's own; this ingest re-weights London from the borough rows and checks the result against the FCA's published regional figure before writing anything.
